Jessica Kirkpatrick is an American painter living and working in Scotland. Her practice employs realist painting methods to posit an enquiry into the 'real' through the language of representation. In Rome she wants to "revel in a city speckled by painting" and absorb the techniques and methods of 15th and 16th century painters, integrating them into her present day practice. She will investigate the art of fresco as a way better to understand the relationships between painting and architecture. Jessica also wants to investigate the 'in between' spaces - parks, gardens and streets around suburban Rome.
