Covadonga Valdes is a Spanish painter who has lived in the UK for 23 years. She wants to use her time in Rome to focus on the 'capricci' paintings of the 17th and 18th century Italian artists, and then make her own 'capricci' paintings. Covadonga is working towards new approach in her work and her time at the British School will give her the time she needs to explore and develop new techniques. In the past she has worked with the landscapes of Northern Spain, England and the Laplands of Sweden. She plans to juxtapose her experiences of those landscapes with the very different Italian landscapes she will encounter around Rome; drawing together subjects from different places and countries in a new arrangement, representing a collective familiarity of European views.
