Katy Kirbach

Abbey Scholar 2012

For several years Katy Kirbach has drawn inspiration from the colour and geometric textile designs from the Italian fashion house, Missoni. At a recent visit to Italy she was also fascinated by the way marble and trompe l'oeil marbling exist side by side whether in table tops or elaborate Byzantine mosaics. This use of marbling throughout Italy acts as both structure and decoration, making ornamentation inseparable from construction. Exploring this will help her to use her scholarship to develop the way she uses ornamentation in her work.
