Andrea Medjesi-Jones

Abbey Fellow 2013

Andrea Medjesi-Jones has written in depth about the Italian painter Emilio Vedova and the significance of his work to her own artistic practice. Vedova's criticism of Avant Garde painting and its idealism (as exemplified by Dada and Expressionism) is essential to her own approach to painting. In Rome not only will she will have an opportunity to explore his life and work in more depth by studying the documents and collections of his work that will be available to her but she also aims to develop a new body of paintings and drawings.
