Nancy Milner

Abbey Scholar 2014

Nancy Milner planned to use her time in Rome to refine her personal investigation into the relationship between light and space in painting. In a previous visit to Rome Nancy Milner was greatly influenced by the richness of Renaissance painting, in particular the Pertinent Magdalen by Caravaggio in the Galleria Doria Pamphilij and the way the light source is artificially heightened creating a dramatic contrast with the darkness. This has created a starting point for her research. Nancy also wanted to have a period of uninterrupted time to complete work and to gain experience of exhibiting and how her work can extend beyond the studio.
