Peter McDonald

Abbey Fellow 2016

The principle subject of Peter McDonald’s work is the everyday and how narrative is explored through pictorial space. He paints in a flat, perfunctory style using acrylic gouache. This flat, matte surface has an affinity with the surface of fresco painting and he plans to visit the frescoes at Pompeii, Herculaneum and in Rome itself. He is fascinated by the way painters such as Duccio, Giotto and Fra Angelico used time within their work to unfold space and narrative.
