Damien Meade

Abbey Fellow 2017

Damien Meade’s paintings are mediated constructs – paintings of photos of sculptures of drawings – a synthesis of object and illusion, of still-life and portraiture, of landscape and abstraction. He wishes to investigate the correlation between the object and the painting, the painting as object, and the phenomenology of context in art, interiority vs. exteriority: like the proto-installation of Caravaggio’s tucked away in church corners, or Pope Innocent X in the Galleria Dora Pamphilj, and beyond Rome to Giotto and Piero in Florence.
