The 3 months spent on the award opened up a whole new part of my practice.  Previously I had been using sources found in film and photography, suddenly I was incorporating elements from observed experience and the daily wanderings around Rome. The work became more immediate using drawing and watercolour which led into work in acrylic paint on card that was cut away from the rectangle and became free standing cutouts, painted on both sides.  These were loosely arranged into groups and the idea that some kind of melting pot of imagery and references was occurring began to emerge. These images combined all kinds of cultural references and the concept developed of presenting them in the form of a Saturnalia where the order and hierarchy of the images are reconfigured.
