I visited several churches, the Palazzo Farnese, the Vatican Museum, the Doria Pamphili Gallery, the Capitoline, Casa Balla, Galleria Borghese, the Palatine Museum, and several contemporary galleries. I was fortunate enough to make a few trips outside of Rome: Ostia Antica to look at the mosaics, frescoes, and ruins there, then Pompeii. After Pompeii, I went to the National Archeological Museum in Naples and saw the frescoes and mosaics that had been removed from their original location. The colours, shapes and patterns all became source material once I was back in the studio.
