I created a series of drawings, based on etchings and images of via Appia, these then became the basis of a series of paintings, which used this ‘second hand’ or translated information as their origin. As I read more about restoration, and continued to trace/translate the existing images associated with the Via Appia, I began to consider the idea of perception over time, and how much of what we see or look for is a construction based on prior experience or exposure. I created a series of wooden panels, which later became a floor piece where each panel was laid on top of another, relating not only to the physical road (the shape and dimensions were in relation to the width and structure of the Via Appia), but also to the fact of the overwhelming information that existed around the road.
