Rome as a city is a pre-staged (by referring to the Roman Empire) to a re-staged cityscape under the fascist regime until now with the boost of tourism. I was not just able to visit Foro Italico, but also Mussolini’s gymnasium and conference room through the help from the BSR. Besides, I was able to visit the props workshop funded by Mussolini at Cinecitta. After these visits, Rome became a playground to me where the authority is reshaping history constantly. The history imitates itself and how we evaluate the idea of an “empire” again. The reoccurrence of symbolisms turned into a soft nationalistic power to me. The city confuses you with the origin of materials and structures. It is like a hyperreality, which the authenticity becomes ambiguous.
